We've been very lucky to attend a wonderful preschool for Aila. Normally, it's hard to get into because it's reserved for families where both parents work, but thanks to KC's magic, the school welcomed Aila for a week. The staff is amazing, and the school has been lovely.
From the 2nd day, when Aila and I arrived after dropping Tesla off at her school, Aila would pretty much run in (after doing the outside vs inside shoe exchange), saying "bye mama" without looking back. By Wednesday, when I arrived to pick up Aila, other kids who saw me would say, "Aila's mama!" and go run to tell her I came. A few times I snuck in to observe, and each time, she was engaged in whatever activity, happy as a clam.
Adapting at her age is easier...and for the most part, I wondered if Aila even noticed the language difference since she seemed to really not care that no one spoke English. However, on Thursday, she dropped a few tears after nap time wanting me (was distracted quickly by snack time), and on Friday, she said she missed Holly sensei & Kai sensei from her S.F. preschool : )
I can explain to Tesla why we are here, but for Aila, this sudden change just happened, and I suspect she's finally wondering if this is ever going to end. Hrm...it will change since we'll head back to Yokohama, but then she'll be in another school ; )
At the entrance of the school, they posted what the meals were each day. For the most part, Aila just ate rice...saying a stubborn no to the other dishes :(
Here is Aila on her last day. She received an origami necklace with a thank you note to Aila. And it's me who is soooo grateful for all the school did!
