This was T's 3rd Christmas, but the first where she seemed to enjoy it and get that it's a special time. She still doesn't fully understand the meaning of Christmas, but loves the decorations and the presents! We kept it reasonable, and got very cool gifts from family, but I still felt a bit overwhelmed with more stuff. The big hit was a fold-up cafe that T can play in - thanks clan Kennedy!

I got Tesla a tiara which she seems pleased with. And here is T painting a mug for Daddy.
Looks lovely and calm. The quiche did come out. But boy, was it hard to have T help me. I envisioned her learning about cooking (ie. showing her the visual steps in the book), but in reality, I was constantly hovering over her and stopping her from destroying my dough. She made a mess, then got bored in the middle.
Michelle told me about a trick. Next time, I'll give her a bowl of mush to play around as she pleases (vs. not-too-kneaded dough that must be kept cold)
Either way, it was fun to share this with Ms. T.

That cat must have been a fish in another life.
Before too late, I wanted to quickly post my pics from a fun & crazy gift exchange event we had at Six Apart last week. Kimmie was awesome in planning it out. Since it started when I usually leave the office, I left early to bring T back with me, so she got to see the fun. She comes to the Foo Bars too once in a while so she must think mama's work is all about hanging out and laughing!
Garth summarized all the elements well here.
I tend to focus on work to get in/out on time since I'm a mama, so it's nice to be part of the group fun that 6A has from time to time. I do love our 6A gang!
Merry Christmas Eve!
Dav set me up back in 2006 with Movable Type and was my very own IT help. Life gets busy with jobs and a toddler, and I've often felt stuck since I really can't do much with Movable Type other than post. Any design changes I wanted, I'd have to force Dav from his zillion other tasks...Finally, he imported all to TypePad. Both are Six Apart products. I'm very excited since this will allow me tons more freedom to tinker with my blog in addition to posting. The ease to do things will be lovely!!
The main reason is our trusty old (as in decade old) IBM server that has been in our kitchen forever, is now making suspicious high tone sounds. Dav knew we had to switch, so this past weekend he worked to create a virtual server so we can finally retire Mr. Old Box. Bless his heart...he supported my quirky blogging since 2006, and brought me into blogging. Well, Dav did, but with Mr. Old Box's help.
The DNS has already been switched over due to urgency. I'm still putzing around with design so bear with me. Anyone wanna help?I don't check stats/referrals on Kokochi super often, but do find it fun to see what brings folks to Kokochi. The body bouncer post, albion castle in SF, amoxicillin (which I have mixed feelings about), and tons of Burning Man fashion searches come up frequently. My name does too, both Kennedy and Yaginuma.
Anyhow, I happened to catch the above, and laughed. I went straight to Dav and we had some good giggles. Apparently, this is what my husband does in his limited free time to get my attention. Lovingly geeky (like when he got into a conference IRC channel that I was at, wrote that he needed me to call him, and the person sitting next to me who knew who I was, leaned over and showed me the IRC chat).
I love Dav.
So cute I had tears in my eyes while watching!
It's also sweet to learn about other traditions. Last night we went over to the Regenbogens for Hanukkah. We ate delicious latkes, lit candles, and got presents! I love that the Jewish holidays have so much meaning and symbolism. The detail about the food reminds me of Japanese food symbolism. It's fantastic that Tesla gets exposed to all sorts of stuff so she can later pick and choose what is meaningful to her..
And as the last tradition we're trying out this year, we got to make gingerbread houses at the Regenbogens. T was more interested in eating the crackers as I decorated, but it's just plain fun to do projects like that!
