wings and a jacket
"Fairies don't wear jackets! ..." said Tesla when she decided to wear her pink wings to preschool, and I insisted she put on a jacket as we headed out the door. She pouted as I put her jacket on, then her wings. As soon as we got to school, she shed the jacket, got her wings on, and pretty much pranced around oh so proudly.

What a horrible tragedy. I hope I am not being too nosey/insensitive, but out of curiosity: Was your mom around yet when it happened? And if she was born yet, did they live in that area or far away, and does she remember? How did your Japanese grandparents experience the horrific events? I am a complete pacifist and thus opposed to any kind of violence. Isn't it interesting how now, 65 years later, we are STILL dropping bombs on innocent civilians? One would hope a nation, a world, would at least learn from awful mistakes such as the Hiroshima/Nagasaki bombings, but no such luck I guess.

Yes, it is a tragedy. My mom was 4 years old at the time, and was in Yokohama so far away. But overall the whole country was devastated. Tokyo was majorly bombed. Memories my mom has are more about growing up post-war when the country was poor, along with immense U.S. occupation presence. During that period it was all about survival.
