Taken by Daddy-o while I was getting my make-up done on Sat.
T wearing her favorite dress, on her beloved tricycle, enjoying the open space by the Bay Bridge. I hope T keeps these memories as she grows up in S.F., just like her grandma Marie.
Boy, this one kinda hit me. I still haven't fully grasped that my daughter will be growing up in San Francisco or even in California—and NOT in New Orleans. Ridiculous given that I moved here nearly half my life ago!![1]
It's not that I would move back there or anything but...her childhood will be so incredibly different from mine and she'll have no connection to one of the biggest influences in my life. It kinda makes me sad for her.
That is, until I look at the picture above. And that makes me kinda sad for me...

[1] - OK, 16 years which can really only be "nearly half my life" if I'm being really generous. :)

First, wohoo. A girl!! Can't wait to meet her. She will be such a lucky girl with you guys.
For your comment, indeed. It symbolized a lot for me too. For me, my heart home is Japan, although like you, over the years after establishing roots and a family in S.F., SF is my home too. But I definitely want T to know Japan and Japanese, to understand my background. I bring her back a lot, and she's in a Japanese preschool so I feel lucky. But of all places, growing up in SF will be pretty phenomenal. I do hope to take T to Japan for a period - such 6 months or a year to really have her soak it in.
We'll see. I'm sure our kids will have their very own ideas about what they want to do!
