I got into the habit of posting short updates on Facebook in spite my discomfort. I used to put ALL my updates on my blog, especially when I only moblogged. No matter how small, everything was there. Even though the FB updates are rather insignificant, I don't like that they are on FB, as if they are gone to some other world; I have no idea what will happen to my updates. Short they may be, they are still my recording of life.
On the blog side, I have updated my blog for myself since 2002, and if folks wanted to follow, that's nice. I just joined the TypePad community (after using Movable Type) which connects me more than before. But until now, I never wanted to publicize my blog, let alone blast my blog to FB, etc.
Finally, I've decided I'm going to try and no longer update FB, but start doing my tidbit whatever updates on my blog just where I actually want them. And yes, I'll use TypePad's handy-dandy easy-as-a-click FB update thingy so all my posts go to FB.
I feel weird since Kokochi will seem more public, even though Kokochi is totally public already. Kokochi has been a little island that people came to, but I never pushed out, so we'll see how linking to FB feels for me.
Anyhow, here goes the first blast.
Hi Mie,
I really don't like Facebook at all, much for the same reasons you state above, I don't like that it is not just another world, but a closed world.
But I did put my blog feed into my Facebook and what I have found is that a few family friends, who would never otherwise read my blog, are now reading the posts but they amusingly go back to Facebook to comment rather than comment on the blog. Basically, for the folks that are really attached to Facebook, it makes them feel like I am participating in their world, even though only my feed really is.
;o)

I am totally anti FB and I only ever read blogs or Twitter. I have lots of reasons why I am anti FB - not many of them logical - but mainly as I know it would suck all my time. I like seeing people and finding out what they have been up to in person rather than just a rehash of FB posts. I worry about the security of my personal information on FB. I like to know that when I am invited to something, people have bothered to write an email to me or called me rather than just put up a blanket invite on FB and hope that everybody comes. I do miss out on things from time to time, but my friends are remembering that I am not on FB and so are sending me personal invitations to things when they want me to be there. Then I pay the compliment back by turning up.
So please keep updating your blog as this is how I glean my information about the world.
p.s. Remember that art project you and Dav worked on a few years ago. We are working on one of our own. Will unveil soon.

I just realized my Twitter feeds into FB, and so there will be that update even though I rarely tweet. Anyhow, good to hear how you two feel. It always made me uncomfortable, but I was able to reconnect with high school friends, etc. Anyway, we'll see where this all goes.
T, can't wait to hear more about your art project. You are both so artsy and awesome that this will be magnificent. Love it! Go Art! p.s. I'll be in Tokyo 2/20 ~ although as usual not sure how much time I'll have. Will try to connect!
