Random shots from a dinner at home. I made quiche, and documented the pie crust making stage, but entirely forgot to take a picture of the final result!
After dinner, Dav showed a hilarious video that I found on Gen's site. I loved seeing everyone's reactions as they watched it.
Later, Wakame joined us at the table. Both cats were quite sociable, actually. She kept meowing at Sean any time he stopped petting her.

That video is so funny on multiple levels. It's obviously funny to Japanese people. It's also funny to foreigners who've spent time in Japan and can relate to being confused about sushi etiquette. Then it'd be funny to non-Japanese who've had exposure to sushi but probably not in Japan (where it is somewhat different.)

That is so wonderful that you made your own pie. I made my own this year for Thanksgiving and in the middle of having my hands in the dough I decided I wanted to take a picture. But when I pulled my hands off the dough and it all stuck to my hands I decided not to get the camera sticky! Wow pie crust is difficult. It seems like you're coooking more lately. I'll be sure to invite myself over to your place for something yummy when I'm in town (February) ;-)

P.S. I was just curious what recipe you used? A friend gave me a "sure thing" recipe with crisco but I didn't even think about what crisco is made of until I went to make the pie (hydrogenated oils). So at the last minute I had to scramble for an online butter recipe and luckily had two whole sticks of butter for that use!

Helen,
I'll email it to you since I should give you the exact measurements, but it's only flour, butter, ice water, and a pinch of salt. Old-school french recipe. :)
